Explaining how to Remote/Hold Open from the Mobile App

This article will explain how you can Remote Open or Hold Open from the Storage Smart Entry by Nokē Mobile App for both iOS and Android

This article will focus on how to perform a Remote Open or Hold Open specifically from the Mobile App. The Remote Open and Hold Open features of the Nokē Smart Entry system allow you to unlock an entry point remotely to assist a customer, even if you're not onsite.

While this can also be done from the Web Portal, this guide will explain how to use the Storage Smart Entry by Nokē Mobile App.

To get started, log in to the Mobile App using the same username and password you use for the Web Portal. Once logged in, navigate to the main Home page and find the section labeled 'Entries.'

After selecting the 'Entries' section, the app will display a list of entry points at your facility that you have access to.

From here, you have two options:

  • 'Hold Open' allows you to remotely open and keep an entry point open even when you're not physically near the device,
  • The 'Unlock' button will become active when you're within Bluetooth range of the device, enabling you to unlock it in person. Or alternatively, if you aren't in Bluetooth range, you can click on the unhighlighted 'Unlock' button to remotely open is as a Quick Open

Hold Open

'Hold Open' will keep the device unlocked until the set time expires or until you click the green button to cancel the hold and close the device.

The differences between the 3 options that pop up when you trigger a 'Hold Open' are:

Hold Open:

This option will open the entry point and will keep the entry point open indefinitely until a Close option is selected in the same widget.

Set a Time:

This option will open the entry point for a specified amount of time.

Set a Schedule:

This option will let you set a specified date and time to open and close the entry point (including the option for setting a 'Repeating Schedule').

Remote Open

The 'Remote Open' option unlocks the entry point for a short time before automatically closing it. This feature is typically used to grant quick access to someone at the gate. If you're not within Bluetooth range of the device, simply click the grayed-out 'Unlock' button. The Mobile App will display a pop-up notifying you that you're out of Bluetooth range and will ask if you'd like to unlock the entry remotely. Click 'Unlock' again to complete the action.

Requirements

There are some requirements that are necessary to see 'Remote Open' as one of the available options.

  • The facility needs to have an entry point set.
  • Users need the 'Remote Open' permission assigned to their role type.

If these selections are not visible, please reach out to an administrator to grant permission for your role type.

Further requirements are as follows:

NokePad (3K) - Firmware Version needs to be at least equal to or greater than BLE 3.2

NokeVolt (3E) - Firmware Version needs to be at least equal to or greater than BLE 4.18 and the voltage has to be wired and above 15000V.

NokeVolt (2E) - Firmware Version needs to be at least equal to or greater than BLE 3.37 and the voltage has to be wired and above 150000V.
