Nokē Ion
The Nokē Smart Entry (NSE) system has two main hardware parts when installed on a standard roll-up door: a wired Nokē Ion Lock Body, which is mounted inside the storage unit on a door rail, and a Notched Sliding Latch, which is mounted on the outside of the unit’s door. These two pieces are aligned so that the Lock Body will catch and secure the Notched Sliding Latch when locked.
The Nokē Ion system offers optional peripheral attachments, including an optional wall-mount RGB LED status indicator light, and an in-unit Motion Detector. The Nokē Ion Lock Body requires a standard 12Vdc power source when connected to the PIR Motion Sensor; otherwise, if there is no motion sensor connected then the Nokē Ion will accept power inputs from 12Vdc to 24Vdc.
Nokē Ion locks automatically form a secure wireless mesh network to ensure reliable communication. Nokē gateways strategically located throughout the facility connect this wireless mesh network to Nokē ’s encrypted cloud servers. The Nokē Ion locks pass activity logs from one lock to the next until a Nokē gateway is within signal range, and then the information is sent back through the cloud.
Audible Indicator:
- When the Ion lock chirps once, it is locked.
- When the Ion lock chirps twice, it is unlocked.
- When the Ion lock chirps every 5 seconds for 30 seconds, it is stuck or not properly engaged.

LED Indicator - Upcharge:
The LED Indicator is an optional upcharge; it is only used to indicate the status of the lock.

Motion Sensor - Upcharge:
The Motion Sensor is an option upcharge; it is mounted high in the corner of the unit for the best field of vision. It covers a 45 x 45-foot area and the sensor is triggered only by objects over 60 pounds.

Q: When will the Motion Sensor be available?
A: The Motion Sensor will be available after November 1, 2024.
Q: What area is covered by motion?
A: Motion can be detected in a 45-foot by 45-foot area.
Q: How large does an object need to be to trigger motion?
A: The object moving in the unit must be larger than 60 pounds to be detected.
Q: Can the motion sensor detect a fire?
A: The Nokē Smart Entry system is not designed for fire detection and will not send alerts for fire-related incidents.
Q: How do notifications work?
A: Notifications can be set up to alert members of the operations team only; they are not visible to tenants. In the notifications tab, facility personnel can choose to receive alerts via text, email, or push notifications (in-app and portal).

General Ion FAQs
Q: What happens if the facility experiences a power outage?
A: Altronix power supplies provide a two-day battery backup. Both tenant and manager Bluetooth access will continue to function during a power outage. If a lock is engaged, it will stay locked; if it’s unlocked, it will remain unlocked but can still be secured using the battery backup.
Q: What if the internet goes down?
A: Tenant access will not be affected, as access from the phone to the unit operates via Bluetooth. Activity will be stored on the lock and uploaded to the portal once the internet connection is restored.
Q: Can tenants unlock from anywhere?
A: Tenants must be within Bluetooth range (15 feet) to unlock the unit. However, operators can unlock units remotely through the portal or smartphone app.
Q: Does my tenant need Wi-Fi or cellular data to unlock?
A: No, tenants download a digital key when they open the app near an entry point. This key allows them to unlock the ion lock without requiring Wi-Fi or cellular data.

Q: Is there a manual way to access the lock if it fails?
A: No, for security purposes, there is no manual release option if the lock fails.
Q: What happens if the power cable is cut?
A: If the power cable is damaged, all locks downstream of the damage will become inoperable but will stay secured until the trunk line is repaired and power is restored.
